DeepSeek V4.1-Flash-1017 Posts Sharp Gains on Agent Benchmarks

DeepSeek's V4.1-Flash-1017 update, reported by Quartz on October 19, raised Terminal-Bench 4.0 from 31.2 to 42.3 and Humanity's Last Exam from 36.8 to 42.6. Artificial Analysis scores it 45 on its Intelligence Index, ahead of MiniMax M3.1 Flash and GLM-5.3-Flash at 42.

Why it mattersTeams running terminal-based coding agents should retest DeepSeek V4.1-Flash-1017 now, since its Terminal-Bench 4.0 jump to 42.3 makes it a stronger default than MiniMax M3.1 Flash or GLM-5.3-Flash.

SoftBank in Allied Universal Talks

SoftBank is reportedly in early talks to buy Allied Universal, the largest U.S. security-guard firm, at an equity value of up to $18B1. Adding Allied's roughly $12B of debt could push the total transaction near $30B. Talks are preliminary and no price has been agreed.

AgentPlay

AgentPlay turns the coding-agent sessions sitting on your laptop into a replayable map, so you can scrub to the exact step where Claude Code or Codex took a wrong turn.

AgentPlay reads transcripts your agents have already written, runs entirely on your own machine under Apache-2.0, and pins the moments worth inspecting to a timeline: retries, context compactions, model switches and opened PRs. Trying it costs one command and no account, so the only real question is whether you review agent runs often enough to keep opening it. Developers who regularly untangle long agent sessions should install it now; teams hoping for shared review workflows will find those parked in a hosted edition.

Naksha Studio: a local dashboard for auditing Claude Code work and spend

Naksha Studio runs locally and collects the design decisions Claude Code makes, lets you verify its reviews, and estimates what each session costs. Point it at a repository where the agent works daily, then use the audit trail during code review to check why a change was made before you merge it. The cost estimates also show which tasks burn the most budget, so you can decide where to keep using the agent.

OpenCode 2.0.30: open-source coding agent with docked terminal diffs

This release of the open-source OpenCode agent brings back desktop change summaries and adds session shortcuts with diffs docked next to the terminal. Run two or three sessions on separate tasks, switch between them with the shortcuts, and review each diff in place before you accept the agent's edits. Directory listings give the release date, but the vendor page was not independently checked, so confirm the version is available before you roll it out to a team.

Cline 4.1.25: keep coding sessions running in the cloud

Cline 4.1.25 has begun rolling out cloud sessions, so development work can continue or be coordinated outside your local editor. Give a long-running task, such as a test-suite migration, to a cloud session, close your laptop, and review the results later. The rollout is gradual, so check whether your account has access before you plan any asynchronous workflow around it.

Highlight AI: meeting and screen summaries with drafted follow-ups

Highlight AI records the important moments from your meetings and screen activity, summarizes them, and drafts follow-up messages automatically. Try it during the free trial on a week of recurring meetings, and compare its follow-up drafts with the notes you would have written yourself. Paid plans start at $358/month, so keep it only if the drafts save you real editing time.

Characterising and Analysing Retrieval-Augmented Generation Techniques

Emmanuel Igbekele, Olawande Daramola · arXiv 2026-10-16

The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) across many application domains has increased the need for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to reduce hallucinations and improve LLM performance.

5.2 A Scenario Example. Consider the example of a set of tasks and user requirements for the RAG-LLM architecture of an Enterprise Financial and Legal Advisor (RAG-EFLA), as shown in Table 4.

THE DOJO · BUILD TODAY

Audit your agent runs before you switch models.

  1. 01

Price the finished task. Log retries per task on your own suite and compute cost per completed task for each candidate model. Today's deep dive argues that retries on 8% of tasks would wipe out a $0.26 versus $0.28 gap.

  2. 02

Replay old transcripts in AgentPlay. Point it at transcripts your agents already wrote and check the timeline for retries, context compactions and model switches. It runs locally, so nothing leaves your machine.

  3. 03

Use OpenCode 2.0.30 as a test bench. Run one real task in the open-source coding agent with V4.1-Flash-1017 and again with your current default. Compare how many attempts each needs to finish.

The Bottom Line

Benchmark gains only pay off once retries are counted.

A model that posts big agent-benchmark gains still has to win on cost per finished task, and the deep dive shows how little room a one-cent price gap leaves. Local tools like AgentPlay make that check cheap, because your own transcripts already hold the retry data. Replay them against V4.1-Flash-1017 before you change any defaults. Trust the numbers from your own workloads over a leaderboard.

A figure is money, a percentage, a spelled magnitude, a multiple, a rate carrying its unit, a score over its denominator, a thousands separated number or an index close. Bare integers and years are not counted, so a phrase like "over 100 integrations" carries no mark. A chart's own scale line is the axis of the level above it and is counted once, with that level.
